The vibrant town of Manavgat in Antalya recently hosted the International “From Crete to Side” Culture and Taste Festival, a celebration that blended the rich musical and culinary traditions of Crete and Turkey. Held in the historical side of Side, the festival culminated in a remarkable concert at the Temple of Apollo, where a mix of Cretan and Turkish melodies echoed under the stars.
The closing concert featured performances by the renowned Sofia Vossou, a celebrated Greek singer with a platinum record, and the popular Necati and Saykolar Group, who brought a contemporary twist to Anatolian rock sounds. Their performance, which combined nostalgic tunes and modern hits, captivated the audience and created an unforgettable atmosphere.
Manavgat’s Mayor Niyazi Nefi Kara, Eleni Zervoudaki, Deputy Mayor of Chania, Crete, along with a host of chefs and attendees, gathered to celebrate this cultural fusion. As part of the festivities, a special screening of the legendary film Zorba the Greek, based on Nikos Kazantzakis’ famous novel, was held at the Ancient Harbor Side Cultural House. The 1964 film, which won three Oscars, offered a glimpse into the profound connection between Greek and Turkish cultures.
This festival was a true reflection of the shared heritage between Manavgat and Crete, bringing together food, music, and history in a way that deepened the bond between these two remarkable regions.
